As I research the world of Youtube about chakras and 3rd eye meditation I see a lot of videos with an hour of binaural beats. Are they helpful to open the 3rd eye? It becomes difficult to listen for too long, plus I become impatient.
If, in fact they are useful, do I have to be completely meditating and only listening to it, or can I multitask and read other things while those soundwaves go into my ears. Some videos have them in the background turned up while giving off other information as they say the beats are effective and equivalent to meditating while giving off another presentation.

From my experience binaural beats are helpful, but they are more towards helping you get into a meditative state. Binaural beats are definitely a great tool to teach you how to meditate. As of lately I've started to prefer using guided meditations but that's just me. The best thing is to try everything and see what works best for you.

Not yet. I just see titles saying, "Warning: Extremely powerful 3rd eye opening brainwaves..." or "Open 3rd eye in 15 minutes." So far I've had the best results producing my own vocal/tongue vibrations in the silence.

There is and good and bad side to using them. The good side is that you can bring the brain down to theta state which is like meditation or self hypnosis, using affirmations with them works well! the bad side is there are so many different kinds and using them a lot or many different kinds can have some side effects. they can confuse your mind body and spirit.
