Questioning isn't a sign of ignorance. I remember so many people here disliking skeptics. But question is: does disliking them make you right? Skeptical people have one important thing I admire. Questioning. Believers are sometimes way too quick to believe whatever goes around. Now I know lately I'm sounding like a grinch and that I said this over and over but questioning is important. It gives you a better understanding of things to form YOUR own truth. Not just people's ideas.
Why do we 'see' things through the inner eye?
Because the pineal gland produces melatonin. Which is triggered around EM activity which is mostly the form of energy substance of ectoplasm which is why it creates an hallucination that allows us to percieve spirits. You don't have to believe this. But just an example.
Another one is why organic foods are exactly healthy?
"Cause it's natural, duh." Yeah I know, but natural things can also e dangerous. Such as certain herbs. The reason it's healthier is because it provides more minerals and vitamins and less herbicides. Another example. Bring science(I know some of you really love science but we need more). The truth isn't one sided(paranormal, psychic ect.), but both the mystical and scientific fields. The problem was that most skeptics were being d**ches. But if we could find open minded people that are also very into science to bring to this forums then it would be much more wider. That is what you want right Mark? Hope to get a feedback from anyone on this.

I agree completely. I mean all of us are skeptical about different things. I'm skeptical about the existence of god for example.

I'm happy to talk to skeptics about paranormal topics. They often have interesting perspectives and make us look at things from a different angle. The problem is when the argument becomes "ad hominem" and they attack us personally rather than the topic at hand. I'm against that in all forms, there's no reason to make aspersions on a persons character, whether its a paranormal debate, or a political one, or anything. Always stick to the topic not personal attacks. When a person results to this just walk away.

Glad you understood. Everyone's indeed a skeptic. There are some scientific people who are actually skeptical about global warming. Even though it's a common thing these guys test theories to make things more clear. I have no problem with it. You're right

It's very hard to find a scientific person who isn't a close-minded skeptic, for the sole reason that if a person has been trained in science (Masters, degree, PhD or Science Job) they have been trained in a psychological world-view that is diametrically opposed to almost all paranormal things -in my experience and observation.

I am not saying this is an absolute rule, there are always going to be exceptions in people who are scientifically trained but also open-minded, but in my experience especially at University has shown that the science types are the super athiest, super non-paranormal ones.

Universities and Science programs/Degrees seem to breed closed minds.

I majored in philosophy and that was just as bad, some people are so closed minded. One guy even started off his metaphysics course by telling the class that 'paranormal stuff is not philosophy and is hoodoo' with a giant picture of psychic dolphins up on the projector screen to make his point.

Thus making you question a lot more to the point you don't believe these things anymore. Glad to hear your experience. Are you going for a PhD now for Philosophy?

well, theres always going to be skeptics wherever you go and whatever you do, for instance, my family is skeptical of my psychic powers, even though I can accurately tell them when something will happen, and 80% of the time it happens, which is also like Christians vs atheist for example, I could sit and tell you all the wonders and proof of god and all this denying absolute truth for example but im never going to change marks mind about the subject. its a matter of a personal journey that nobody can describe to you how it is even in existence, you shouldn't dislike somebody for not agreeing with you on a few things. ive learned that time after time lol, I learned to just keep my mouth shut and not force my beliefs, for instance, I come from Christian roots but I don't claim a religion, I just simply believe and follow god, my atheist friend jd wil come to me for help when hate full and spite ful Christians come at him with oh your going to rot in hell and holier than thou and whatnot, its fun to just say let he who is without sin cast the first stone and just watch every body shut up.

That's right, it seems after the logical explanation people just giving up looking for evidence themselves, or trying things out to see for themselves.

And maybe I will go for a PhD. It depends on whether the university fees get de-regulated in my country, which may be happening next year. Meaning that higher degrees will cost like $100,000+ AUD,
which is completely insane - and I'd rather save for a house deposit with that money than spend a million years paying back a PhD.

PhD's aren't THAT great a deal now. Spend 5 years to be super stressed, dirt poor, only to get a PhD and then spend the next 10 years being super stressed and dirt poor paying it back - sounds like a lot of fun...

And no one really respects PhD students anymore...dime a dozen.
