I am creating a discussion about shamanism. - what does shamanism mean to you? and what is your story about shamanic experiences and encounters?

To me shamanism is the knowing that you are consciousness, the power to heal and be healed, tantra/sacred sexuality, trance/dance or channelling and see-ing (3rd eye work).

I have met shamen and having experienced some shamanic practises - mostly positive. Healing has been the most profound and life changing. and it is still now i think about what shamen have said to me to look into the deeper meaning. I also enjoy the insights from my eye - alothough sometimes it can be quite overwhelming.

Sometimes I just dont understand - and that is ok.

Interesting, I was just thinking about it ! I don't have a specific meaning for it but I know it includes shamanic dreaming, shamanic rituals, shamanic healing and the use of some taboo. It's from the African culture which is why it's really known to the old folks here in Curacao.

In Finland we usually talk about shamans and kanjiras instead of witches etc. Some years ago I heard from my classmate that he has shamans in his family tree and told me about them and blood stoppers.

He told me that sometime at the 50-60's in a hospital mom was giving a birth but had very bad internal bleeding and doctors failed in operation. Then they called a blood stopper at the hospital, he whispered a few minutes at mom's ears something and then internal bleeding stopped and mom and the baby survived.

Blood stoppers are a very known category.

But there isn't much information about blood stoppers. I've tried to find some information but the finnish version was a bit difficult to translate to english.

Here's how the old-time bloodstoppers did their work. It was really rather simple, provided you had, you know, the Power. You simply recited the sixth verse of the sixteenth chapter of the book of Ezekiel in the presence of a bleeder, while walking to the East:

"And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou vast in thy blood, Live."

And then the wound in question, it is said, would stop bleeding.

Yes that sounds like the way they did the job. I guess it could be called some kind of poem magic.

thanks for the info on blood stoppers... I have met people with very 'strange' skills like this.
I think I have seent he documentary about taboo in shamanism... taboo is so subjective I don think it has any hold on shamanism as an art form. however... I personally have had troubles accepting my gifts... I don't want to be a freak but what I do is a bit freaky to the outside world. but you know... its a process to enjoy.

In Finland we have place in north called Lapland. Some of the Finnish indigenous people live in there and most of the shamanism comes from that place. There still exist old school shamanism and few original magic drums. One my friend comes from Lapland and he showed me some shamanism calm down spells.
